Skin Lesion Removal

The skin lesion removal procedure is performed using a plasma pen device. Plasma pen is a versatile and non-surgical procedure that is a quick, effective and ethical way of removing skin lesions such as moles, skin tags, cherry angioma, warts, seborrheic keratosis and Dermatosis papulosa with minimal downtime.

It works by generating a controlled electric arc of plasma, creating small electrical charges that are precisely targeted to the surface of the skin. The pen doesn’t actually touch the skin. As the pen moves across the treated area, it produces a series of small dots, which produce a controlled injury to the skin, stimulating the natural healing process. The precision of the pen means that there is minimal to no damage to the surrounding skin.

Often only one treatment is needed to completely remove the lesion, however for larger and/or more persistent lesions, multiple treatments may be required.

Initially a scab forms in the treated area, whilst the skin underneath heals. This usually falls off within 3 – 7 days, however it can be up to 2 weeks. Once the scab falls off, the treated area is slightly pink as it is fresh new skin that has been underneath the skin lesion. Over the next few weeks the skin tone gradually returns to normal.

PRE TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds, tanning injections and spray tans for at least 2-4 weeks before treatment.

  • Use SPF 50 daily 2 – 4 weeks before your treatment, especially if you are naturally darker skinned and tan easily.

  • Avoid any other treatments to the area such as chemical peels, laser or microneedling for 2 weeks prior to your treatment.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION:

  • Keep the area clean and dry for the first 48 hours. After this the area can be cleaned with lukewarm water, but avoid any products on the area for a further 5 days.

  • Avoid exfoliants, retinoids and other harsh skincare products to the area for 2 weeks post procedure, or until fully healed.

  • Do not touch the treated area.

  • Do not pick the scabs - Allow the scabs to fall off themselves. When the skin is fully healed, the scabs will naturally fall off. Picking and removing the scabs can increase the risk of scarring. Rubbing or scratching at the skin will result in irritation and affect the healing process.

  • Do not apply makeup until the area has fully healed- Covering up healing skin can result in infection. It can also result in a delayed healing process or even promote scarring. Many makeup products also have chemical ingredients that can cause issues in the healing process.
