Post Natal Massage

Postpartum massage is a full body massage offering both physical and emotional benefits. A specific aromatherapy oil blend is used to help balance the mind and body as well as to nourish the skin. The body is treated as a whole with more focus to certain areas as needed.

 

It's normal to experience tired and aching muscles throughout pregnancy and this is exaggerated after childbirth, especially in areas that are prone to getting sore like the arms, chest, shoulders and back. Focus is also given to the abdomen to stimulate healing and repair. Although very beneficial and recommended to include, the abdomen may be left out if preferred.

 

Postpartum massage relaxes the muscles and soft tissues helping your body to naturally realign. Some women prefer a light touch massage while others prefer a slighter firmer pressure.

It is recommended during the first 12 weeks of your baby arriving, as soon as you feel ready. If your delivery was by cesarean section then it is best to wait until 6 weeks (or until the incision is fully healed) for massage on the abdomen, however massage elsewhere and Reflexology may be carried out which also has fantastic healing and stress relieving benefits. Your baby is welcome to join you at your appointment.

 

Dermalux LED Phototherapy can also be included into the treatment to promote healing and cesarean scar reduction.

A study showed that having a massage one day after delivery significantly reduced anxiety in new mothers.

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
