Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers restore volume loss in the skin to make it appear more plump and rich. Most dermal fillers are made up of Hyaluronic Acid, which is a naturally occurring sugar already found in the body responsible for hydrated looking skin.

Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers come in the form of an injectable gel like substance containing non animal stabilised Hyaluronic Acid and is a natural substance already found in the human body. It is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human Hyaluronic Acid. They have a variety of thicknesses.

The area being treated and depth of wrinkle will depend which is the appropriate thickness. Hyaluronic Acid depletes over time as we age which results in the visible signs of ageing. Skin loses volume as a result of the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the protein that form building blocks of the skin. Dermal fillers work by replacing the Hyaluronic Acid giving the skin a smooth, plump and hydrated appearance as well as providing more structure and balance overall.

It plumps the skin from the inside out. The procedure takes approximately 30 – 60 minutes including a consultation. Results are visible immediately however please be aware there may be some swelling and bruising, so it is best to expect optimum results in up to two weeks.

If you have a special occasion or event to attend it is advisable to book your treatment a minimum of two weeks beforehand. A follow up appointment will be arranged two weeks after your treatment to review and discuss if any tweaks need to be made.

TREATABLE AREAS:

Nasolabial folds (Nose to mouth lines) – Nasolabial folds are the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth. Prominent nasolabial folds and cheek lines are usually due to loss of supporting tissues in the skin. I recommend the use of dermal fillers to produce volume under the folds to smooth out their appearance.

Marionette lines (Mouth to chin lines) – Marionette lines are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin. These lines are usually due to loss of underlying support tissue in the skin. I recommend the use of dermal fillers to plump out these lines, providing support that will make them less apparent.

Peri-Oral lines (Smokers lines) – Lines extending from the lip or ‘smokers lines’ can be treated by enhancing lip definition combined with injecting small amounts of filler into each line. Alternatively the lip enhancement can be combined with other anti-wrinkle treatments.

Lips – Different looks can be achieved for the lips. Lips can be defined by injecting Hyaluronic Acid into the tissue around the lip area known as the Vermillion Border (a little tube that runs around the lips). This procedure gives more definition, plumps up the lips and enhances the Cupids Bow. Lips can be given more volume by injecting filler into the red part of the lip to give a plumping affect. For those who wish to have more of a pout a larger volume of filler will be injected to achieve this look.

AFTERCARE:

Following your dermal filler injection treatment, there is advice to adhere to that will help optimise the results of your treatment:

  • Avoid touching any treated areas for at least 6 hours. After this time the areas can be washed gently with soap and water.

  • If the area is tender apply some ice covered in a cloth to the treatment site.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise after your treatment.

  • Avoid any heat such as hot bath, showers, swimming, saunas, steam rooms and sunbeds.

  • Avoid sun exposure as this can reduce the persistence of the product.

  • Massage the treatment site ONLY if you feel any lumpiness.

  • Do not apply any creams that contain alpha hydroxyl acids.

  • Clients who have suffered from cold sores in the past should be aware that there is always a risk that injections around the lip area may cause cold sores to flare up.

  • Avoid long distance flying for 24 hours.

  • Avoid dental treatment for 24 hours.

  • Do not take - (either before or after treatment) Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Nurofen or other anti-inflammatory as this may increase any bruising. There is a risk of bruising. If this does occur, it will only be temporary and can be covered with makeup.
