Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels are one of the most tried and tested ways to improve skin health. It causes controlled injury to the skin, which promotes growth of new skin. Chemical Peels exfoliate and remove the tough, dull, dead layers of skin through a portion of the epidermal layer. They remove dead skin and toxins from the face and clean the surface of the skin through exfoliation - this tightens and firms the skin.

Skin Peels improve and restore circulation to facial skin layers, increasing the flow of oxygen-enriched blood to skin cells. They also help with reducing the appearance of mild blotchy skin discolouration, remnant acne discolouration and help cleanse the pores. The rush of blood to the skin gives your skin a healthy glow and plumps skin cells with vital nutrients and water, which helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dry skin. Nutrients such as vitamins and minerals found in the blood, along with adequate hydration help develop and maintain new skin cells, essential for a youthful, healthy appearance.

There are many different types of chemical peels including Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid and TCA. These can be superficial, medium or deep. A consultation is carried out to determine the best peel for you.

Eden Dermatology

Skin resurfacing Glycolic Peel suitable for all skin types.

Formulated with pure medical grade glycolic acid and synergised with Hyaluronic Acid along with skin loving nutrients. This combination of powerful ingredients increases skin absorption and moisturisation properties, making the skin resurfacing peel one of the best peels available. The glycolic formula contains medical grade glycolic acid, which is derived from a natural source of sugar cane. Glycolic acid works at the base of the stratum corneum (the top layer of your skin) and dissolves the ‘glue’ that holds dead skin cells together. This increases cell turnover and the skin becomes smoother and more even in skin tone and texture. The formula also stimulates your skin to produce more collagen which is the main structural protein of the skin which keeps it elastic and line free; when this starts to disintegrate, skin begins to sag and wrinkle. Replacing the collagen your skin loses with age can help diminish crow’s feet around the eyes along with frown lines and vertical lines around the lips.

Eden Dermatology can also be used to treat skin on the body such as acne of the back. Available in superficial, medium and deep peels - however a tolerance to the skin must be built up gradually in order to work into the deeper layers. Although your skin will be assessed during your consultation it is likely at your first treatment we will recommended to have the superficial peel.

For best results a course of 4 - 6 treatments is recommended 14 - 28 days apart (depending on the depth of peel). However this can be enjoyed as a single treatment with visible improvements and benefits to the skin.

PRICES:

Single Treatment: £55.00

Course of 4: £210.00

Course of 6: £300.00

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

Before a chemical peel, you must:

  • Avoid retinoids for at least 48 hours before your treatment.

  • Inform your skin care practitioner of any medications you are taking prior to treatment.

  • Avoid sun exposure to the treated area for 24 hours before your treatment.

  • Arrive with a clean face (no makeup).

  • Do not schedule this procedure if you have used Roaccutane/Isotretinoin within the last 6 months.

  • Do not wax, epilate, use depilatory hair removal products or hair bleaching 7 days before the peel.

  • Avoid using facial scrubs and exfoliants 7 days before the peel.

AFTERCARE INFORMATION & ADVICE:

  • Do not touch your face – after a chemical peel your skin may itch. This is especially common as you start to peel. Do your best to avoid touching, picking or scratching your face. Touching your skin may lead to scarring and increase your risk of infection, breakouts or additional irritation.

  • Keep your hair off your face – if your hair is hanging loosely around your face you are more likely to experience itchiness or general irritation.

  • Remember to be gentle when brushing or pulling your hair back as you don’t want to graze your skin with the brush or fingers – this could increase irritation or contribute to breakouts.

  • Moisturize your skin – After a chemical peel your skin will likely be dry and sensitive. Ensure you moisturise your skin regularly with a neutral, unscented cream or lotion. By keeping your skin moist, you will minimize itchiness and irritation and speed up the healing process. When you apply moisturiser remember to be gentle – scrubbing or rubbing it into your skin will increase irritation and could lead to scarring or other damage.

  • But, do not over moisturise – Moisturizing is an essential part of chemical peel aftercare. Although it is important not to over-moisturize your skin.

  • Applying too much moisturizer can prevent the skin from peeling off (which is the main aim of the chemical peel).

  • Protect with SPF - Avoid sun exposure for the following 7 days. Ensure to wear SPF 50 daily.

  • Avoid sweating - avoid swimming, strenuous activity and exercising during the first 24 hours to minimise sweating – the salt from sweat can cause stinging and lead to additional irritation.

  • Avoid acidic foods - eating acidic foods can also irritate your skin as its healing from the peel. Stick to natural foods for a few days following your chemical peel.

  • During the first 1-3 days post treatment your skin may appear slightly red (similarly to sunburn) and your skin may feel warm, rough and tight.

  • Avoid makeup, retinoids and glycolic acids the evening after your chemical peel.

  • Use only gentle skin care products for the first 3 days.

After this you can resume your normal skin care regime:

  • Wash your skin with a gentle, sulphate -free cleanser or tepid water for the first 3 days. Gently pat dry.

  •  Apply an alcohol-free toner – use a spray bottle or gently pat onto your skin (do not use a cotton ball).

  •  Apply an antioxidant serum (preferably one with Vitamin C).

  •  Apply a gentle lotion or cream all over the face.
